Big longshots, huge exacta and trifecta payoffs – You missed out again! - How is this possible? Are speed and class figures the only  answer? Was it the class drops, workouts or drugs? Does the Jockey or Trainer know something you don’t?  More likely it’s because most handicappers are using YESTERDAY’S NEWS to handicap TODAY’S RACES! They are missing out on the READY  horses altogether. Their information is STALE ! Take off  your Blindfolds.

BEAT THE BEAM

Nearly every handicapper who embraces “physicality” handicapping will tell you that in today’s game of short fields and short prices, they couldn’t possibly wager on a horse without looking at him.  Visual inspection has become an essential “edge” in their wagering!  This includes the legions of players forced to wager via satellite at an off track simulcast outlet.  Those of you who have a copy of my 90 minute video BEAT THE BEAM, know that physicality handicapping via the beam is not only possible, it’s very profitable if you are willing to put in a small amount of extra effort that’s returned to you many times over.

Ed Bain's new book titled "The 4+30" is ready to deliver.

This book explains how Ed uses his 4 + 30 statistics to make a living as a professional horseplayer.

The name of my book is "The 4 + 30" which is the statistic that I bet on. It means this trainer has produced at least four wins or more plus a 30 percent-hit rate or higher (the 4 + 30) on this trainers' specialty move. This book has eleven chapters including one on automatics as well as filters which is a way of reducing a group of bets to a higher percentage play. The book also tells of the journey I traveled to get to today's style of betting. The 4 + 30 makes a case for trainer stats which is a common sense approach to percentages and the odds board. When you have a known hit rate you can measure fair odds and payout. Without a known hit rate, odds and payout cannot be evaluated objectively. The reason is racing is not a game of chance, like dice where the last sequence of throws conveys absolutely no information about what the next throw will bring. The 4 + 30 is about percentages and profitability. This book is about statistics. Numerical data assembled and classified to present significant information.

Chapter I - Lock and Load
Chapter II - Lite the Fuse
 Chapter III - Discipline
 Chapter IV - Numbers
 Chapter V - Circuits
 Chapter VI - Odds
 Chapter VII - Filters
 Chapter VIII - Betting Menu
 Chapter IX - Betting the 4 + 30
 Chapter X - Automatics
 Chapter XI - The Platform

"For several years now I've been referring to Ed Bain as a model of a successful horseplayer. I'm not sure how many folks have taken me seriously. It's not easy to accept what Ed stands for. We might have to change our ways as handicappers and we would surely have to examine the way we conduct ourselves from the standpoint of discipline. I am honored to write this preface, for Ed Bain has achieved something that I know from personal experience is not an easy feat: He makes his living from profits derived from betting on the horses." Mark Cramer, Author

"Whoever said; You can beat a race, but you can't beat the races never met Ed Bain. I have and he does.  Using a combination of carefully compiled statistics, a knowledge of pedigree, and a very strict discipline, Ed has established himself as a serious player among thoroughbred racing professionals."  Lee Tomlinson, Mudders & Turfers

"In a game with a high degree of difficulty, Ed Bain has created simplicity. The 4 + 30 is one of the few truly objective approaches to playing the races for profit."  Steve Fierro, Race Day USA
